Biografhy
Pilar Gallegos Aguilar “PILAR MARCHENA” was born in Marchena, Seville where she lives and where she commenced her studies of music. Later she furthered her studies in the Higher Conservatories of Cordoba and Seville. It was at the latter, as a pupil of Maruja Troncoso Ortega, where she obtained the title of Singing Teacher for concert and oratory achieving a prize of honour.
During her professional career she has given recitals of operatic arias, Zarzuela romances, Spanish and international concert song as well as sacred music.
She is a member of “Cifra Nueva”, a group of antique chamber music which is active in Andalusian music circuits.
She performed at the homage to Rafael Alberti on the occasion of the centenery of his birth in Puerto de Santa Maria.
She also performed at the First Organ Festival, Villa de Salobreña.
She has been active in giving educational concerts in secondary schools and is presently working as a secondary school music teacher.
The search for a point of contact between the classical world and flamenco brought her to seek the advice of the great flamenco singer, Manolo Paradas of Moron de la Frontera who later went on to compose the lyrics for some of the songs in her repertoire.
As an artist her intention is to fully respect the syles of flamenco while at the same timeenriching it through the use of lyrical technique. The result is flamenco which combines the flamenco sensibility with a pure, clean voice, sometimes crystal-clear, revealing the many years of voice training for lyrical singing.
She receives inspiration from great flamenco singers such as La Niña de los Peines, Manuel Vallejo, Pepe Marchena, La Niña de la Puebla and Pepe Pinto among others.
She decided that the name that she would most proudly use to represent her artistically should be that of her town, Marchena which has given the world of flamenco so many important names and so , as Pilar Marchena she made her debut on 30 October, 2006 in the Delegación Territorial de la O.N.C.E., accompanied brilliantly on the guitar by Niño Elías and by the poetry of Jesús Solano in a recital of flameno singing entitled ”Un mismo sentir, distinto expresar” (different expression of the same feeling). The recital was a resounding success and was repeated in Marchena on 7 of December.
